MGOCSM & FOCUS trip — Members will be taking a trip to the Monastery of Saint Dionysios the Areopagite next Saturday, August 25th. A link for the event with details will be sent out on the GroupMe for both FOCUS and Youth. All members are invited to attend this spiritual outing.
Lancaster Trip — The trip to Sight and Sound theater in Lancaster will be this Tuesday, August 21st. Breakfast will be provided at the church and all participants are asked to arrive at church no later than 7:30 in the morning so that we may leave on time. Everyone is also encouraged to wear the maroon church t-shirt. As noted earlier, fees collected did not include the cost of lunch and so all are kindly reminded to bring either cash or credit with them.
MMVS Annual Conference — The MMVS annual conference will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2018, at St. Thomas Orthodox Church Philadelphia, Unruh Ave. The registration and the bus fare is $50. Those who interested in attending can contact Mrs. Mary Varghese, Mrs. Sandya Thomas, or Mrs. Usha Sam as soon as possible. The bus to Philadelphia is being booked by the end of this month, so please give your names in advance if you want to reserve a spot on the bus.
Back to School Retreat — The MGOCSM of Brooklyn/ Queens/ Long Island will be hosting a Back to School Retreat on Saturday, September 1st from 9:30 AM to 3 PM led by Seminarian Royce Mathew at St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Cherry Lane. School Supply Drive — As the new school year is about to begin, the MGOCSM will be collecting school supplies for children in need in accordance with the Glen Cove Youth Bureau. Kindly place any supplies for donation in the box downstairs next week.
Monthly Committee Meeting — There will be a monthly Committee Meeting next Sunday after Holy Qurbana. All committee members are kindly requested to attend.
Kerala Flood Disaster Relief Fund — As all of you are now aware of the flooding that is taking place in India, we will be circulating a donation sheet for the flood relief fund in Kerala during the General Body meeting. Please contribute within your ability for this effort.
Silver Jubilee Celebration — The Episcopal Silver Jubilee banquet has been postponed till further notice, as Thirumeni has said that, at this time of suffering in Kerala it is not an appropriate time for celebration.
High School & College Graduates — All students or parents of students graduating from High School or College please give your names to the Secretary.
Feast of the Dormition of St. Mary — The end of the Dormition Fast and its Feast will be celebrated this Tuesday, August 14th at 6:30 pm. All are kindly requested to attend.

Council of Indian Orthodox Churches Convention — The annual Council of Indian Orthodox Churches convention will take place at Our Lady of Snows Church on Sept. 14-16 at 6:30 pm. All those who are available during those days are kindly requested to make arrangements to attend.
St. John’s Orthodox Church, Bellerose Blood Drive — St. John’s Orthodox Church in Bellerose will be hosting a blood drive on Saturday, August 18th from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Silver Jubilee Celebration — The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church will be hosting a banquet for the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of our beloved Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. The formal banquet will be held on the evening of Sunday, August 26, 2018, at The Greentree Country Club. We have Diocesan Council members here today, selling tickets for the event. Agni: Ablaze for the Lord Middle School Camp — The Northeast American Diocese hosted a middle school camp from August 9-11 at the Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center. There were 38 participants from all over the diocese. During the camp, the students played games, made friends, and learned about Purification, Illumination, and Deification. We hope that we can have all of our middle school students participate in this great camp next year!

Silver Jubilee Celebration — The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church will be hosting a banquet for the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of our beloved Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. Softball tournament — Last Sunday our church softball team won first place in the St. John’s Softball League. They have been traveling for games as part of this tournament for many weeks and this is the third year they have won.

Holy Dormition Fast – As we enter the month of August, we also enter into the fast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Mother of God. As with any fast, this is a good time to spend reading scripture and other spiritual activities. Holy Qurbono will be conducted on Tuesday, August 14th at 6:30 pm to conclude the fast and celebrate the Feast. May the prayers of the Holy Virgin Mary be upon us!

2018 Parish Picnic – Yesterday we held our annual picnic at Belmont Lake State Park. It was a great day of fellowship, fun, and food. Special thanks to Mr. Arun Joseph, Ms. Emily George, Mr. Manoj Varghese and everyone who spent hours preparing and cooking the food and making arrangements so that we could all get together and enjoy one another’s company.

Passing of Mr. K.O. Thomas – With great sadness we regret to inform of the passing of Mr. K.O. Thomas, the father of Mr. Thomas K. Thomas. The funeral service will be conducted in India. Please keep the bereaving family in your prayers.

Passing of Mr. P.I. John – Mr. P.I John passed away last Tuesday, June 19th, and funeral services were conducted on Saturday, June 23rd. Please keep the bereaving family in your prayers.
Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul – Holy Qurbana for the end of the fast and to celebrate the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 6:30 pm.
Basketball Tournament – The STYL Presents: Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament is coming up next Saturday at Island Garden Gym. As every year, the success of this tournament is due to the combined efforts of not only the youth and FOCUS, but also the parents, so the presence and support of all church members are kindly requested.
Tournament Meeting – The day before the tournament, Friday, June 29th, there will be a meeting at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Cherian Abraham at 7 pm. This will be our last meeting before the actual tournament so it is especially important that all youth members make an effort to attend.
STYL BBQ – As every year, we will be having a youth barbecue the day after the tournament. This year it will be at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Juby Thomas on Sunday, July 1st at 2 pm.
