STYL Presents…The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament

The MGOCSM of St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church would like to announce that the parish will be hosting its annual basketball tournament. In its 15th year, the Parish is remembering our beloved Anil John. The tournament has been renamed in his honor to STYL Presents: The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament. This year the members of the MGOCSM would like to remind everyone to #BeLikeAnil. Come join us this Saturday, July 9th at Island Garden Gym in West Hempstead. Weekly Announcements – 7/3/16

1. Church Perunal – We had our Parish Perunal on Friday & Saturday. Special thanks to all who helped out & participated. For details and pictures, please click here.

2. Trip to Lancaster PA – To see the Live production, the story of Samson at Sight and Sound on Wednesday, August 24th, kindly see Danniya or Shojil to sign up or for more details. We have 14 seats left.

3. Annual Basketball Tournament – The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament will be held this coming Saturday, July 9th. We request that we all buy tickets as soon as possible. Those who have already purchased tickets kindly bring the money and give it the responsible youth representatives who are in charge of collecting them. Kindly show your support by attending the tournament Saturday morning at Island Garden. Tournament will begin at 9am.

4. Parish Open House – will be held on July 17th Sunday from 2-6pm. A few of our Youth & FOCUS members went to invite neighbors and will continue covering more houses throughout the next couple of weeks. Special thanks to everyone who helped out. The nearby Orthodox Churches have also been informed.

5. Church Picnic – will be held on Saturday, July 30th at Belmont Lake State Park.

6. Malayalam Class – through the initiative of Kochamma and Achen, class will be starting this Tuesday from 5pm-7pm at the residence of Achen.

“My Lord and My God”

Today, St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church, LI, celebrated the Feast day (Perunal) of St. Thomas the Apostle, the patron saint of our parish.

Excerpt from the homily delivered by Fr. Andrew (Leeson) Daniel: “Tradition holds that St. Thomas came to India in 52 A.D to spread the Gospel. It is said that he had the fear of going to a foreign land but that did not stop him from going and preaching the Gospel. Throughout his ministry, he continued to seek out the truth by questioning his faith. Our Lord empowered St. Thomas and the other disciples by teaching them and bringing a certain discipline and order into their lives. By teaching these ordinary men, Christ entrusted the church to them. These men soon turned out to become apostolic leaders of the Church. St. Thomas had many doubts and questions about his faith, and yet, God used him as a tool to proclaim his divinity, the same way each and every one of us are called to do the same…”

The Chief Celebrant was Rev. Fr. Andrew (Leeson) Daniel, Vicar of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, Staten Island, NY.

We were blessed with the presence of Very Rev. T.M. Zachariah Chor Episcopos.& Very Rev. Paulose Adai Chor Episcopos, along with the vicar and the assistant vicar of the parish.

Weekly Announcements – 6/26/16

  1. MMVS Bible Study – will be today after refreshments in the auditorium.
  2. Apostles Lent – will conclude this coming Tuesday. If anyone would like to do Holy Confession kindly reach out to either of the Achens.

Passing of Mrs. Achamma Simon

On behalf of all the members of St. Thomas Long Island, we would like to announce the passing of the mother of Mr. John Thekkakara & Mr. Varughese Thekkakara. We will continue to pray for the grieving family and send them our heartfelt condolences. Details of the funeral are listed below:

  1. Apostles Lent– We are in the season of Lent, let us spend more time reading Scripture, prayers, spiritual books and most importantly, Holy Confession. If anyone would like to do confession, kindly reach out to either Achen’s.
  2. FOCUS Meeting– will be held on Friday, June 24th at 7:00pm at the residence of Juby & Giny.
  3. MMVS Bible Study  – will be next week after Service- Sunday, June 26th.
  4. Trip to Lancaster PA – Wednesday, August 24th. We have 21 seats left. Cost is $88 per adult and $57 for children. Kindly see Danniya Samuel or Shojil Abraham to sign up or for more details.
  5. Family Conference– registration is still open and the dates are July 13th-16th. (Wednesday evening into Saturday) If you would like to register please visit www.fyconf.org.
  6. Parish Perunal – July 1st and 2nd, Friday and Saturday.
  7. Parish Website– Today we innagurated the parish website. The web team is Alex Abraham, Stanley Thomas, George Palakaddan, & Shojil Abraham. Thank you to Alex Abraham for his hard work and commitment for the past couple months in creating the website!
