Weekly Annoucements – 08/20/2017

  1. Weekly Fasting Prayer – Our weekly fasting prayer will be held this Friday from 10am- 12pm at the parish. Rides can be arranged for those who need them.
  2. FOCUS Meeting – Our next FOCUS Meeting will be held this Friday, August 25th, at 7pm at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sinu and Giby Jacob. All FOCUS members are kindly requested to attend.
  3. Parish OVBS – Our Parish OVBS will be held this Saturday at the Parish. Those who have registered kindly make sure that you come on time since we have a full day schedule planned.
  4. BQLI Area Convention – The annual B/Q/LI area convention. The main speaker for all three days will be Rev. Dr. Ninan. K. George, professor of Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kottayam. August 25, 26, 27 Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6:30pm at Our Lady of Snow Roman Catholic Church.
  5. Parish Sunday School Trip – The Sunday school children, parents, teachers took a trip to a Minor League baseball game of the Long Island Ducks.  We wanted to thank everyone who took the time to attend. Please see some pics below.

Weekly Announcements – 07/02/2017

1. Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament– We had our basketball tournament yesterday. We are pleased to announce that our Basketball team won 2nd place in the Tournament. On the 3 on 3 competitions, our team won 1st Place. Congratulations and thank you for your hard work and dedication you put into this. I especially want to thank this year’s organizers and volunteers. Also, special thanks to all the parents who showed up to the tournament to show their support and love.

2. Weekly Fasting Prayer – Our weekly fasting prayer will be held at the Church this Friday from 10am-Noon. All are requested to attend.

3. Parish Perunal – A reminder that our Parish Perunal will be held this Friday and Saturday July 7th and 8th. Friday evening we will be having Rev. Fr. Paulose Peter, the Vicar of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, White Plains, NY as our guest speaker. All are to attend on a timely manner. Friday evening at 6:30pm and Saturday morning at 8am.

4. FOCUS Meeting – Our next FOCUS Meeting will be held next Sunday at 5pm at the Residence of Mr. and Mrs. Arun and Sheba Joseph. All FOCUS members are requested to attend

5. Parish Picnic – Our Parish Summer Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 22nd. Kindly make arrangements to attend.

6. Parish Committee Meeting – There will be a parish committee meeting on Sunday, July 23rd after service. All Committee members are requested to attend.

7. Parish OVBS – Our parish will be hosting a one day OVBS on Saturday, August 26th from 9am – 7pm. If you are interested in signup for registration will begins today. Reach out to either Mrs. Giby Jacob or Ms. Shilpa Mathew for registration. The flyer are available and will be posted. There will be a $5 charge for each student signing up. Weekly Announcements – 06/25/2017

  1. Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament – A friendly reminder that July 1st Saturday is the annual basketball tournament at Island Garden Gym. Kindly make arrangements to attend to show your support.
  2. Fasting Prayer – Our weekly fasting prayer will be held at the Church from 10am-Noon. All are requested to attend.
  3. Service Next Week – Kindly note the time change for service for next Sunday. Morning prayer will begin at 7:30am because of a baptism which will be held right after morning prayer.
  4. Parish Perunal – A reminder that our Parish Perunal will be held on July 7th and 8th Friday and Saturday. As our guest speaker we will have Rev. Fr. Paulose Peter, the Vicar of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, White Plains, NY.

  6. Sunday School Family Outing – The Sunday School is arranging a family outing to go and see the Long Island Ducks Baseball game. It will be held on Friday, August 18th at 6:30pm. We have reserved tickets and if you are interested in attending kindly let Mr. Ajit Thomas know as soon as possible. Just a friendly reminder that parents are responsible for arranging rides and supervising their children.
  7. Parish OVBS – Our parish will be hosting a one day OVBS on Saturday, August 26th from 9am – 6pm. If you are interested in signup pre-registration will begin next week. There will be a $5 charge for each student signing up. Kindly approach Mr. Nevin Joseph for more details.
  8. Annual GROW Conference – This year’s annual GROW (God Renewing Orthodox Women) conference was held at the newly purchased Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center. Special thanks to all our members who participated and attended the conference.

Weekly Announcements – 06/04/2017

  1. FOCUS Trip – to St. Tikhon’s and HTRC was a great success. Special thanks to all those who attended. We had about 16 people including children who attend the trip. You can view the pictures of the trip on the Photos Page.
  2. MMVS Fasting Prayer Meeting – this Friday, June 9th from 10am- Noon at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham K Yohannan and Rosemary Yohannan. These prayer meetings will be held every Friday. Those who are available that day are requested to attend.
  3. Navathi Celebration – The members of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church cordially invite you to participate in the Navathi celebration of our beloved father in Christ Very Rev. Fr.​ ​Dr. P. S. Samuel Cor-Episcopos. Kindly see the attached flyer for details.
  4. MGOCSM Meeting – our next meeting will be held on Saturday, June 17th at 4pm at the Church. At MGOCSM members are requested to attend. A friendly reminder to bring your Courage to Pray books.

  6. New Holy Qurbana Books – are ready for release. Pre-order forms will be sent out this week. Each book costs $15. If you are interested in purchasing your own copy kindly see Sinu Jacob, the treasurer.
  7. Family and Youth Conference – registration is still open because of a few cancellations. If you are planning to attend, kindly do so as soon as possible. Kindly send in your checks as soon as you register.

Weekly Announcements – 03/19/2017

  1. Mid-Lent Service – will be held this Tuesday, 21st evening at 6:30pm.
  1. Feast of Annunciation – will be held on March 25th. Morning prayers will begin at 8am.
  1. STYL Basketball Tournament Meeting – next Sunday the 26th after Sunday School. All youth and FOCUS are requested to attend this meeting.
  1. Parish General Body – meeting date is changed and will be held Sunday, April 2nd. All eligible members are requested to attend.
  1. Lenten Retreat – Our Parish Lenten Retreat and Confession will be held on Saturday, April 8th starting at 2pm. This year we will be having two speakers, one for the Youth and one for adults. Dn. Shawn Thomas will be here to address the Youth and FOCUS and Rev. Fr. Biju Paranthal will be here for the adults. All are requested to attend.
  1. Holy Week Schedule – Please see the schedule for Holy Week on the Calendar. Just a reminder that we will be having evening prayer every evening during Holy Week. Kindly make arrangements to attend.

Weekly Announcements – 02/12/2017

  1. All Departed Faithful – Next Sunday is when we remember all the departed faithful. Kindly submit the names of your loved ones by Saturday evening.
  2. March Monthly Prayer Meeting – The monthly prayer meeting for March will be held on March 5th at Vailya Achen’s house.
  3. Basketball Tournament Meeting – on February 26th there will STYL Basketball Tournament meeting after Sunday School. All youth are requested to attend this meeting
  4. FOCUS Meeting – Our next FOCUS meeting will be held on Friday, February 17th at 7pm at the residence of Deepu and Leena Palakaddan. All FOCUS members are requested to attend.
  5. Altar Servers Meeting – will be held on Sunday February 19th after Sunday School. All Altar Servers are requested to attend.
  6. MGOCSM Meeting – Our next MGOCSM meeting will be held on Friday, February 24th at 6pm. It will be held at the residence Dr. Thomas Mathew and Mrs. Smitha Mathew. All MGOCSM members are requested to attend.
  7. New Hand Dryers –  New environmentally friendly air hand dryers will be installed in the bathrooms, if anyone wishes to sponsor them please reach out the Secretary or Treasurer.
  8. 2016 Accounts Finalization – Please finalize all 2016 accounts over the next 2 weeks, as accounts will be closed for 2016 on Feb 26th, 2017.
  9. 2016 Sunday School Newsletter – please find the Sunday School Newsletter for 2016.  It shows the various service events and activities that our Sunday School did over the 2016 school year.

Weekly Announcements – 01/22/2017

  1. MGOCSM Faith Study Series – will be held this Friday, January 27 at 6pm at church. For this month we will be discussing on the topic of how to discern the will of God in our journey in life. All MGOCSM members are requested to attend.
  1. Basketball Tournament Meeting – The next Sunday, January 29th after Sunday school there will be a STYL basketball tournament meeting. All youth are requested to attend this meeting.
  1. Visiting St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church – We will be visiting St. Bernard’s RC church next Sunday the 29th at 3pm. We will gather at the Church first by 2:30pm and go together as a group.
  1. Newborn Baby Boy – Kindly join us in congratulating Mr. Bills and Nancy Varghese on their newborn baby boy David Varghese. Let us keep the newborn and his family in our prayers.
  1. Back to college – Many of you are heading back to college this week and next week. Make sure you are on top of your work right from the beginning so it won’t pile up. The greatest medicine against procrastination and Laziness is discipline. Having a set routine for yourself- setting time apart to prayer, to study, to play, to do chores.

Weekly Announcements – 8/14/16

  1. Parish Souvenir – As the Souvenir for the Parish is being worked on, we need pictures of the parish administration and of various spiritual organizations of the parish. The Souvenir Photo Session will be held next Sunday, August 21st after refreshments. All are requested to stay back. If you are still planning to give materials for the souvenir and still have not payed for the souvenir compliments, the deadline is next Sunday, August 21st.
  2. Softball Tournament Winners – Our STYL youth won 1st Place in the St. John’s Orthodox Church Summer Softball Tournament. Congratulations to the team!
  3. Lancaster Trip Schedule –  Please see the schedule for the trip below.
    • For those attending the Lancaster trip, we will be meeting at the Church  at 8am on August 24th for breakfast .
    • The bus will leave from the church by 8:30am.
    • We will stop for lunch (individuals must pay for themselves) and arrive at the theater by 2pm.
    • We hope to return back to the church by 8pm.
    • If you have not submitted the payment for the trip kindly do so as soon as possible to either Shojil Abraham or Danniya Samuel. It would be nice if we can all wear our church t-shirts for the trip.
  4. Parish T-shirts – Our parish t-shirts will be sold today and next week after service in the auditorium. They will be $10 each.
  5. Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Festival – The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of East Meadow is having their parish festival on Saturday September 3rd from 10am-6pm. Flyer is attached.
  6. St. Mary’s West Sayville Perunal – St. Mary’s West Sayville is having their perunal Friday and Saturday, August 19th and 20th. See attached flyer for details.
  7. Orthodox Convention – Combined Orthodox Convention will be held Friday August 26th– Sunday August 28th at 6:30pm. See attached flyer.
    • Some copies are left in the lobby area of the Church.
    • The Main Speaker: Rev. Fr. P.A. Philip.
    • His Holiness the Catholicose will be inaugurating the convention Friday Evening. Sunday school children are asked to be present Friday evening at 6pm to receive His Holiness.

St. John’s Softball League 1st Place Winners

The MGOCSM and FOCUS of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, LI won 1st place yesterday in the St. John’s  Orthodox Church Summer Softball League. Our team was able to defend last year’s title, even after a very tough regular season.  We would like to thank our sister parish St. John’s Orthodox Church, Rockland   for giving us this great opportunity to take part in this league. A special thanks to all of our fans who attended the games and encouraged our team throughout the day.

St. Stephens Orthodox Church Super Bowl 2016- 2nd Place Winners

The MGOCSM and FOCUS of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, LI won second place yesterday in the St. Stephens Orthodox Church Super Bowl 2016. This was our first ever trophy from a bowling tournament in STYL history. We would like to thank our sister parish St. Stephens for giving us this great opportunity to take part in this tournament. Everyone on the team strategically worked together and played really well to reach the finals. Thank you to everyone who participated and came to support the team.
