Weekly Announcements – 07/15/2018

  1. 2018 Parish Picnic – Yesterday we held our annual picnic at Belmont Lake State Park. It was a great day of fellowship, fun, and food. Special thanks to Mr. Arun Joseph, Ms. Emily George, Mr. Manoj Varghese and everyone who spent hours preparing and cooking the food and making arrangements so that we could all get together and enjoy one another’s company.
  2. Lancaster Trip – Just a friendly reminder that money for the Lancaster trip is due no later than Sunday the 29th. If you previously reserved a seat and no longer will be able to attend, please let Emily George know at your earliest so that those on the waitlist may have a chance.
  3. MGOCSM & FOCUS Game night – Special thanks to everyone that participated in the Game Night.

Weekly Annoucements – 07/08/2018

  1. Passing of Mr. K.O. Thomas – With great sadness we regret to inform of the passing of Mr. K.O. Thomas, the father of Mr. Thomas K. Thomas. The funeral service will be conducted in India. Please keep the bereaving family in your prayers.
  2. Sunday School/OVBS – Sunday School Area 2 OVBS will be held on July 11th, 12th, & 13th from 8AM to 3:30PM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church School, 92-96 220th St., Queens Village, NY 11428.
  3. FOCUS/ MGOCSM Meeting – There will be a joint MGOCSM and FOCUS meeting this upcoming Friday, July 13th at 6:30 pm at the church. All are kindly requested to attend.
  4. 2018 Parish Picnic – This year’s picnic will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 at Belmont State Park. We encourage all members to please arrive before 10am, wearing the maroon church t-shirt and to participate on this day of fellowship.
  5. Memorial Service of Mr. P.I. John – There will be a memorial service for Mr. P.I. John next Sunday, July 15th. Lunch will be provided by the family. All are invited to attend.

WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS – 06/24/2018

  1. Passing of Mr. P.I. John – Mr. P.I John passed away last Tuesday, June 19th, and funeral services were conducted on Saturday, June 23rd.  Please keep the bereaving family in your prayers.
  2. Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul –  Holy Qurbana for the end of the fast and to celebrate the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 6:30 pm.
  3. Basketball Tournament – The STYL Presents: Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament is coming up next Saturday at Island Garden Gym. As every year, the success of this tournament is due to the combined efforts of not only the youth and FOCUS, but also the parents, so the presence and support of all church members are kindly requested.
  4. Tournament Meeting – The day before the tournament, Friday, June 29th, there will be a meeting at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Cherian Abraham at 7 pm. This will be our last meeting before the actual tournament so it is especially important that all youth members make an effort to attend.
  5. STYL BBQ – As every year, we will be having a youth barbecue the day after the tournament. This year it will be at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Juby Thomas on Sunday, July 1st at 2 pm.
  6. Parish Perunal – Our Parish Perunal will be held on Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th. Friday evening we will be having evening prayer followed by a devotional address. Saturday morning at 8 am we will begin morning prayer followed by Holy Qurbana. All are requested to attend.
  7. 2018 Parish Picnic – This year’s picnic will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 at Belmont State Park. We encourage all members to participate on this day of fellowship.

Weekly Announcements – 06/10/2018

  1. Passing of Mrs. Rahelamma Varghese – With great sadness we regret to inform of the passing of Mrs. Rahelamma Varghese, the mother of Mrs. Elizabeth Panicker and Mr. Solomon Varghese. She is survived by her nine children and their families. The funeral service will be conducted next Tuesday in India. Please keep the bereaving family in your prayers.
  2. FOCUS Meeting – the next FOCUS meeting will be held on the coming Friday, June 15 at 7pm at the residence of Mr. Bills & Nancy Varghese. All FOCUS members are kindly requested to attend.
  3. MGOCSM Meeting – the next MGOCSM meeting will be held on Friday, June 22nd at 5:30pm at the residence of Mr. Shibu Thomas. All MGOCSM members are kindly requested to attend.
  4. Blood Drive – We will be hosting a blood drive in association with the American Red Cross here on next Saturday, June 16th from 11 am to 4 pm. If you have not yet done so please schedule an appointment to donate today.
  5. Sunday School Announcements
    • Last day of 2017-18 SS class will be on June 17th. And SS Final exams will be on June 17th.
    • If any students are interested in attending the Area-level OVBS please speak to the Principal or Assistant Principal.
  6. Half-Yearly Dues – just a friendly reminder that first six months of the year are almost over, please see the Treasurer to review any outstanding dues.

  1. MGOCSM Virtual Meeting – In order to address the questions which were not able to be answered at the Aramana visit due to limited time, we will be having a meeting via Google Hangout this Friday June 1st at 7 pm. All youth and FOCUS are encouraged to log on and join the conversation via a link that will be posted on the GroupMe.
  2. Blood Drive – We will be hosting a blood drive in association with the American Red Cross here on Saturday June 16th from 11 am to 4 pm. Please see Mr. Swagath Thomas or Ms. Ruth Abraham for more information and to schedule an appointment to donate.
  3. Monthly Committee Meeting – There will be a Committee Meeting today after service. All Committee Members are kindly requested to attend.

Weekly Announcements – 05/20/2018

  1. House Blessing – For those who have not signed up for a day for their house blessing, kindly reach out to Stanley Thomas and see which days are available within the the upcoming months.
  2. MMVS Trip – MMVS in the Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island planning to visit Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Connecticut on June 13th . The bus fare will be $40 per head. Those who are interested please contact Mrs. Mary Varghese or Mrs. Sandya Thomas.
  3. MGOCSM Meeting – There will be an MGOCSM meeting this Friday, May 25th at 5:30 pm at the residence of Mr. Vinod Abraham. All youth members are requested to attend.

Weekly Announcements – 05/13/2018

If you are interested in attending please see Emily George at your earliest to reserve your seat. The cost for bus and ticket fare is $94 for adults and $64 for children and money is requested by June 24th the latest.
  5. Next Sunday Change in Schedule – May 20th: Since next Sunday we will be celebrating the Feast of Pentecost, morning prayer will begin at 7:30am. All are requested to attend service on a timely manner.
  6. PI John’s Book – if any church members did not receive a copy of Mr. P I Johns book, please give your names to Dr. Joshi John to receive a book. This is for all church families whether you came to the function or not.

  1. MGOCSM/ FOCUS Meeting — There will be a combined MGOCSM and FOCUS meeting this Friday April 27th, 5:30PM at the Aramana (2158 NY-106, Syosset, NY 11791). All MGOCSM and FOCUS members are requested to attend.
  2. STYL Tournament Meeting — There will be a basketball tournament meeting next Sunday the 29th after Sunday School.
  3. Area MGOCSM Event — This Saturday, April 28th there will be an MGOCSM areawide event at Cherry Lane church from 2-6 pm.  The theme is “Jesus Christ and the Secrets of the Church” and the main speaker will be Rev Dn Shawn Thomas. Metropolitan Episcopal Consecration Jubilee Banquet — The Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church will be hosting a banquet for the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of our beloved Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. The formal banquet will be held on the evening of Sunday, August 26, 2018, at The Green Tree Country Club, located at 538 Davenport Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10805. His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan, will preside over the celebrations. Esteemed leaders from the ecumenical community will also be present on this joyous occasion.

  1. MGOCSM/ FOCUS Meeting — There will be a combined MGOCSM and FOCUS meeting on Friday, April 27th, 5:30 PM at the Aramana. There will be a Question and Answer session with the Metropolitan followed by the Holy Qurbono series. All MGOCSM and FOCUS members are requested to attend.

  4. Area Wide OVBS — A combined OVBS for all parishes of the Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island area will be held this year on July 11th-13th. Pre-registration is being extended to today, April 15th, and will cost $35.

  5. Sunday School Teacher Conference/Training — Our church will be hosting a combined Teachers Conference/OVBS Teachers/Volunteers training next Saturday, April 21st, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
    • Conference Theme: “The role of a Sunday School Teacher in molding our children in Orthodox faith and praxis” based on Ephesians 4:11 “
    • All teachers and youth members are requested to attend and participate.
  6. N.E. American Diocese Summer Camp for Middle School Children — The Northeast American Diocese is hosting its first ever Summer Camp for Middle School Children (ages 10-14).  The theme of the camp will be “Agni: Ablaze for the Lord” and the Verse: taken from St. Luke 12:49 – “I have come to set the world on fire”.
    • The camp will be held at HTRC from Thursday, August 9th – Saturday, August 11th. The registration fee will be $100 per child. Please see the Sunday School Principal or Assistant Principal for details.
