Weekly Announcements – 08/27/2017

    1. Parish OVBS – We had our parish OVBS yesterday. We had close to 60 children participate. Special thanks to all the volunteers, teachers and parents, especially the children who spent the entire day at the church.  Please see the slide show presentation on YouTube https://youtu.be/3VRP4vxC4xI

  1. Weekly Fasting Prayer – Our weekly fasting prayer will be held this Friday from 10am – 12pm at the parish. Rides can be arranged for those who need them.
  2. Holy Qurbana – Two days during the week we will be having Holy Qurbana. September 7th Thursday evening at 6:30pm for the Birth of St. Mary, the Mother of God. Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30pm for the Feast of the Holy Cross. Kindly make arrangements to attend.
  3. MGOCSM Blood Drive – The youth has organized a blood drive in association with the Red Cross that will be held on Saturday, September 30th from 11am to 4pm at the parish. For anyone interested in donating blood please contact Vineeth Varghese or Danniya Samuel at your earliest.
  4. MGOCSM Charity Drive – The youth will be hosting 2 charity drives for the month of September.
    • The first is for the Jamaica Women’s Shelter. They will be collecting toiletries, cleaning supplies, and household items.
    • The second is a children’s shoe drive for pediatric psych patients at Nassau university medical center. Please see the flyer posted on the downstairs bulletin board for details.
  5. Area Level Sunday School Competition – The Area Level Sunday School talent competition will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at St. Mary’s West Sayville church. If anyone is interested in volunteering to help run the event please contact Danniya Samuel.
  6. MMVS Annual Conference – Our annual conference is on Oct.14th Saturday at the Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center. Anyone interested to go for the conference please contact the MMVS secretary or trustee. There is a fee of $35 for the bus and needs to be collected as early as possible.

Parish OVBS

Today our parish hosted its OVBS for the Sunday school and college students. The theme for this years OVBS was taken from St. Mathew 5:48, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

The day began with Matins followed by a message from Rev. Dn. Thomas (Shawn) Thomas. After the message the students separated into different groups where they had group discussions about the lives of saints and how that could help us in our spiritual journey. The students also participated in an arts and crafts activity where they colored their patron saint. Later on in the day Fr. Abraham and Dn. Thomas led a special activity of making of the Ameera (Qurbana Appum).

We were blessed with the presence of the Vicar, Very. Rev. Dr Yohannan Sankarathil Chor-Episcopos and the Assistant Vicar, Rev. Fr. Abraham (Abey) George. Thank you to our OVBS coordinator Nevin Joseph, our valuable donors, and the volunteers who made this day possible. We would also like to specially thank Dn. Thomas for being our main speaker for this years OVBS.

Weekly Announcements – 08/13/2017

  1. Weekly Fasting Prayer– Our weekly fasting prayer will be held this Friday from 10am-12pm at the parish. All are kindly requested to attend.
  2. St. Mary West Sayville Church Parish Perunal – St. Mary’s West Sayville is conducting their Parish Perunal this Friday the 18th at 6pm and Saturday the 19th at 8:30am. The Chief celebrant is Rev. Dr. Ninan. K. George, professor of Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kottayam. The flyer for the perunal is below. Those who are available are requested to attend.
  3. Sunday School Year 2017-18– First day of Sunday School for the year 2017-2018 will be Sunday, September 17th.
  4. Sunday School Talent Competition – will be held on Sunday, September 10th, those who are interested to participate, please register your names by contacting the principal or the vice- principal.
  5. BQLI Area Convention – The annual BQLI area convention. The main speaker for all three days will be Rev. Dr. Ninan. K. George, professor of Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kottayam. August 25, 26, 27 Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6:30pm at Our Lady of Snow Roman Catholic Church.
  6. Parish General Body Meeting – Next Sunday, August 20th, we will be having our Parish General Body Meeting after service. All eligible members are requested to attend.
  7. FOCUS Meeting –  Our next FOCUS Meeting will be held on Friday, August 25th, 2017 at 7pm at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sinu and Giby Jacob. All FOCUS members are kindly requested to attend.

  1. Holy Qurbana– On Monday, August 14th evening we will have Holy Qurbana for the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Evening prayer will begin at 6:30pm.
  2. Weekly Fasting Prayer– Our weekly fasting prayer will be held this Friday from 10am-
    12PM at the home of Dr. Thomas Mathew and Mrs. Smitha Mathew. All are kindly requested to attend.
  3. Parish General Body Meeting– Our Parish General Body meeting will be held on Sunday August 20th after service. All eligible members are requested to attend.
  4. Area Martura Conference– Our parish will be hosting this year’s MGOCSM Area Martura Conference which will be held on this Friday, August 11th- Saturday August 12th from 9am-5pm. The theme for the conference is “What is Christian Legacy” and “What are the steps in leaving our legacy”. The speakers for the conference will be Rev. Fr. Alexander Kurian and Rev. Dn. Abu Koshy. All MGOCSM members are requested to attend. Information on how to register online is posted on the Flyer which will be posted on the parish website.
  5. Parish OVBS– Our parish will be hosting a one-day OVBS on Saturday, August 26th from 9am – 7pm. Reach out to either Mrs. Giby Jacob or Ms. Shilpa Mathew to register.   1. Weekly Fasting Prayer– Our weekly fasting prayer will be held this Friday from 10am-Noon at the parish. All are kindly requested to attend.
  2. Parish Picnic– Our Parish Summer Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at Belmont State Park at Bethpage at 9am. Everyone please bring your church t-shirts. If you need to purchase one the youth will be selling them downstairs during refreshments. Bring your own breakfast and lunch will be served at the park.
  3. MGOCSM Meeting– Our next MGOCSM Meeting will be held this Saturday, July 29th at 4pm here at the Church. All MGOCSM Members are requested to attend.
  4. Parish Committee Meeting – our next Parish Committee Meeting will be held Sunday, August 6th after service. All committee members are requested to attend

  7. MMVS Trip – The Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam of our area are planning a trip to Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary and Monastery in Jordanville, NY on Wednesday, August 16th. Those who are interested to attending this trip kindly provide your names to Mrs. Mary Varghese or Mrs. Sandhya Thomas as soon as possible.

Just a friendly reminder that parents are responsible for arranging rides and supervising their children.

  8. Open Office Hours at the Diocesan Chancery -The first of such office hours will be on Tuesday July 11th at our Diocesan Chancery, 2158 Route 106, Muttontown, New York. The open office hours are from 9AM to 12PM and 3PM to 6PM.
  9. His Holiness the Catholicos –His Holiness the Catholicos will be arriving to NY this Wednesday. Let us pray for His safe arrival.

Weekly Announcements – 07/02/2017

1. Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament– We had our basketball tournament yesterday. We are pleased to announce that our Basketball team won 2nd place in the Tournament. On the 3 on 3 competitions, our team won 1st Place. Congratulations and thank you for your hard work and dedication you put into this. I especially want to thank this year’s organizers and volunteers. Also, special thanks to all the parents who showed up to the tournament to show their support and love.

2. Weekly Fasting Prayer – Our weekly fasting prayer will be held at the Church this Friday from 10am-Noon. All are requested to attend.

3. Parish Perunal – A reminder that our Parish Perunal will be held this Friday and Saturday July 7th and 8th. Friday evening we will be having Rev. Fr. Paulose Peter, the Vicar of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, White Plains, NY as our guest speaker. All are to attend on a timely manner. Friday evening at 6:30pm and Saturday morning at 8am.

4. FOCUS Meeting – Our next FOCUS Meeting will be held next Sunday at 5pm at the Residence of Mr. and Mrs. Arun and Sheba Joseph. All FOCUS members are requested to attend

Weekly Announcements – 06/11/2017

  1. Apostle’s Lent – A friendly reminder to everyone that the Apostles lent begins this Friday and continues onto the 28th It will be a good time to follow-up from the Holy Confession done during Great lent. During these days let us spend more time reading scripture and other spiritual materials, and above all, spending time in prayer.
  2. Fasting Prayer – This week’s fasting prayer will be held this Friday, June 16th at the Church at 10am- Noon. All are welcome to the prayer.
  3. Malayalam School – Over the summer, Malayalam school will begin for all those students who are interested in learning Malayalam. It will be done through the leadership of Valiyachen and Kochamma. Kindly reach out to Kochamma for more details.
  4. MGCOSM Meeting – Our next MGOCSM meeting will be held this Saturday, June 17th at 4pm at the Church. At MGOSM members are requested to attend. A friendly reminder to bring your Courage to Pray books.
  5. STYL Tournament Meeting – There will be a STYL Tournament meeting next Sunday after service. All youth are requested to attend this meeting.
  6. New Holy Qurbana Books – The New Holy Qurbana books are ready for release. Today is the last day to send in your orders. Each book costs $15. If you are interested in purchasing your own copy or sponsoring books for the parish kindly see Mr. Sinu Jacob, the Treasurer.
