Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Festival – Yesterday, The Youth of our parish attended the parish festival of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of East Meadow. Special thanks to all those who participated.

Back to School – Today we will have a “Back to School Session” for all Sunday school and Youth members of the parish who will be going back to School. Right after refreshments, kindly make your way back to the church.

Sunday School Photo – Right after the general Session, we will be taking a Photo with the Sunday school students and teachers.

Sunday School News:
- After the General Session there will be meeting with the Sunday school teachers for the upcoming academic year. All Sunday school teachers are requested to attend the meeting.
- September 11^th and 18^th will be Sunday School competitions
- Sunday School classes will officially begin on the 25^th
- We am pleased to announce that our very own Sarah Solomon won 2^nd place in the area for the assigned competition for drawing.
- Regional Sunday School Competitions will be held at our parish on Oct 1^st. We need parents and teachers to help out for the day.
- Both the floors will be utilized for the competitions. We have to make sure we provide the help they need.
- We need people to arrange with food, setting up the sound systems, and setting up chairs and tables, setting up areas for different competitions.

MMVS News:
- Saturday, October 15^th is the MMVS Annual Conference. It will be held at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Unruh Ave, Philadelphia.
- There is only one bus arranged to go from Cherry Lane church. Only 50 people can go, from the 10 churches within our area. Seats will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The bus cost is $28/person ; and $15 for registration for the conference will be collected in advance. We have to give the payment as soon as possible. Today Mrs. Usha Sam, will collect the money.
- Our parish MMVS Bible study will be held on Sunday, September 25^th, after refreshments.

MGOCSM Back To School Retreat – This year’s MGOCSM Back To School Retreat will be held on Saturday September 17th from 10am-4pm at St. John’s Orthodox Church, Orangeburg.
- The main speaker will be Jinu P. Mathew, an assistant principal of Comsewogue School District, who will be speaking on the theme “Come & Rest” taken from St. Mathew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
- There will be transportation leaving from St. Gregorios, Floral Park. The Cost: $10 per person. To reduce the overall cost of attending the retreat, the registration fee has been discounted to $5 per person.

Altar Servers Meeting – will be held on Sunday, September 18^th after refreshments.

FOCUS Meeting – Our next FOCUS Meeting will be held on Friday, September 30^that 7pm. Location will be determined soon.

Feast of the Holy Cross – On Tuesday, September 13^th, we will be celebrating the feast of the Holy Cross. Evening prayer will begin at 6:30pm followed by Holy Qurbana.

Next Week Service– Next Sunday, September 11^th, Morning Prayer will begin at 8am.

HH the Catholicose – will be returning back to India tomorrow. Kindly uphold him in your prayers.

Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Festival

The Vicar and the Assistant Vicar, along with a few of the MGOCSM members and parishioners attended the annual Festival of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, located in East Meadow, New York.

Upon arrival, The Reverend Father Martin Kraus, the Pastor of Holy Trinity, greeted the group. Fr. Martin gave a tour of the beautiful church and explained the significance of the icons depicted both inside and outside of the sanctuary. He also briefly explained the history of the parish. The group met with other visitors from different Orthodox parishes around the Long Island region. After the tour of the Church, the group partook of the food arranged in the periphery of the church where the group had the opportunity to share about the rich tradition of the Malankara Orthodox Church, and to learn more about the Orthodox Church in America.

St. Thomas Parish would like to thank Holy Trinity Orthodox Church for graciously inviting and welcoming us to this Festival. We look forward to working with this Parish in the near future!

Amminitykutty Kochamma – (Wife of KK. John Achen, and Mother of Geevarghese John Achen) passed away on Thursday, August 4th, 2016. Kindly keep her and the bereaving family in your prayers. The wake will be today from 4:30pm-9pm. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 9am. Both services will be held at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 1009 Unruh Ave, Philadelphia, PA.
FOCUS Meeting- will be held this Friday, August 12th at 7pm at the residence of Sunil and Amy. All FOCUS members are requested to attend.
Lancaster Trip – money is due today. Kindly See Danniya Samuel or Shojil Abraham to submit your payment. Cash, check, and payment through Venmo will be accepted.
Church T-shirts – are still available for $10. They will be sold today and next Sunday after service.
Souvenir Photo Session – As the souvenir for the Parish is being worked on, we need pictures of the parish administration and spiritual organizations. The souvenir photo session will be held on Sunday, August 21st. All are requested to stay back after service.
Materials for the Souvenir – Drawings, reflections about the Parish, and articles can be reviewed by us if you need our suggestions before publishing it in the souvenir.
Fifteen Day Lent – Lent of the falling asleep of the Mother of God continues on. Let us take this time to do Holy Confession, spend time reading scripture, and abstaining from certain types of food. Confession will be available by appointment.

St. John’s Softball League 1st Place Winners

The MGOCSM and FOCUS of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, LI won 1st place yesterday in the St. John’s Orthodox Church Summer Softball League. Our team was able to defend last year’s title, even after a very tough regular season. We would like to thank our sister parish St. John’s Orthodox Church, Rockland for giving us this great opportunity to take part in this league. A special thanks to all of our fans who attended the games and encouraged our team throughout the day.

St. Stephens Orthodox Church Super Bowl 2016- 2nd Place Winners

The MGOCSM and FOCUS of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, LI won second place yesterday in the St. Stephens Orthodox Church Super Bowl 2016. This was our first ever trophy from a bowling tournament in STYL history. We would like to thank our sister parish St. Stephens for giving us this great opportunity to take part in this tournament. Everyone on the team strategically worked together and played really well to reach the finals. Thank you to everyone who participated and came to support the team.

Church Picnic – The annual picnic was held yesterday at Belmont State Park. We wanted to thank everyone that participated and all the people that helped to coordinate the activities and food preparation.
FOCUS Meeting – The next FOCUS Meeting will be held on August 12th at the residence of Sunil & Amy.
MGOCSM Faith Study – The next sesion in the series will be held on August 6th from 4pm-6pm at Church.
Lancaster Trip Payments – The payments for the Lancaster trip are due by next Sunday, August 7th. Danniya & Shojil will be collecting payments. Please make checks payable to St. Thomas Orthodox Church, LI.
Church T-Shirts– We will continue Church T-Shirt sales next Sunday after Kymuth. Please see Danniya or Shojil.
Altar Servers Training – There will be an Altar Servers training session this coming Sunday, August 7th, after service.

Junior Basketball Tournament – Few of our youth will be participating in the Junior basketball tournament hosted by Saint Mary’s Syro Malabar Long Island Church this coming Saturday- the 23rd. We wish them well.
FYC 2016 – Last week we had our Family and Youth Conference at Ellenville NY. Special thanks to all those who participated.
Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center – The North-East Diocese has agreed to purchase the a Retreat Center in Dalton Pennsylvania. (See Brochure Below for details)

Choir Practice – There will be Choir Practice for Wedding Songs today (Sunday Evening) and tomorrow evening (Monday) at 7:30pm at the Church.
Trip to Lancaster PA – to see the live production of the story of Samson by Sight and Sound, Wednesday, August 24th. Please contact Shojil Abraham or Danniya Samuel to be added to the waiting list.
Area OVBS – We had our area OVBS this past week. Special thanks to the volunteers who helped out and the parents who allowed their children to attend.
The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament – was yesterday. It was an excellent game and the STYL Basketball team won second place. Special thanks to all those who participated, volunteered, and played on the team. We would also like to thank all the parents who were present to show their support.
MGOCSM & FOCUS BBQ – There will be a gathering for all the Youth and FOCUS at Sunil and Amy’s house today (Sunday) at 4pm to spend time in fellowship in lieu of the STYL tournament.
Parish Open House – will be held next Sunday after service. It will be held from 2pm-6pm.

We wanted to thank all the teams that participated in the 2016 Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament. The 1st place winners of this year’s Men’s tournament is the Mar Thoma Sleeha Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Chicago and the 2nd place winners is our own St. Thomas Long Island team. Special thanks to our team members: Stanley Thomas, Steve Thomas, Nevin Joseph, Joel Abraham, Justin Joseph, Sijo Jacob, George Palakaddan, Midhun Kuruvilla, Shino Sunny, John Thomas, and Sinu Jacob (coach).

STYL Presents…The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament

The MGOCSM of St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church would like to announce that the parish will be hosting its annual basketball tournament. In its 15th year, the Parish is remembering our beloved Anil John. The tournament has been renamed in his honor to STYL Presents: The Anil John Memorial Basketball Tournament.
