WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS – 09/10/2017

  1. Weekly Fasting Prayer– The weekly fasting prayer will take place every Friday unless otherwise notified.
  2. Sunday school – classes for the 2017-18 year will begin next Sunday- September 17.
  3. The Feast of the Holy Cross – will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30pm at our parish.
  4. FOCUS Meeting – will be held on Friday, September 22nd at the Residence of Mr. and Mrs. Alex and Tigi Abraham. All FOCUS members are requested to attend.
  5. MGCOSM Charity  Drives – The MGOCSM will be hosting two charity drives for the month of September:
    • Jamaica Armory Women’s Shelter- They will be collecting toiletries, cleaning supplies, and household items.
    • The second is a children’s shoe drive for pediatric psych patients at Nassau University Medical Center.
  6. MGOCSM Blood Drive – The MGOCSM has organized a blood drive in association with the Red Cross that will be held on Saturday, September 30th from 11am to 4pm at the parish.
  7. CROP Hunger Walk – As a parish, this year we are planning to participate in the CROP Walk, a charity event organized around the nation to help raise funds to fight against hunger. The event is to sponsor the efforts of Church World Services who fights hunger all around the world. Saturday, October 7th at 10am at Eisenhower Park.   8. MMVS Annual Conference – The annual conference is on Saturday Oct.14th at the Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center. Those who are interested in attending the conference, kindly contact the MMVS secretary or the trustee.
  9. Holy Qurbana Classes – We will be starting classes on the Holy Qurbana starting next Sunday- September 17th Sunday after refreshments for everyone. All are requested to attend.
  10. Hurricane Harvery Relief Fund – Those who would like to donate towards the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund kindly give the donations to the Secretary or the Trustee of the parish.

Sunday School Education Day

On February 18th, the MGOCSM and Sunday School held our first Education Day for the Sunday School kids of our parish. The theme of the event was from Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.” We started the day with prayer, followed by a general session led by Shojil Abraham. Shojil helped the kids of our Sunday School better understand the theme by showing them a presentation and giving them examples of how God gives us strength. He also spoke about the importance of the grace of God and how to receive it.

After the general session, we sang songs with the kids and broke into different groups to talk further about the theme. Each group was led by our Sunday School teachers who prepared a lesson plan for their classes. The teachers emphasized the grace of God working in our lives and how he provides us strength. They also created fun theme related activities for the kids to take part in.

We would like to thank both our Achens for their guidance and presence during this event. Thank you to all our MGOCSM youth and Sunday School teachers who made this event a fun and successful day for our kids.

Weekly Announcements – 01/29/2017

  1. Basketball Tournament Meeting – today after Sunday school there will be a STYL basketball tournament meeting. All youth are requested to attend this meeting.
  1. We will be visiting St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church today at 3pm. We will gather at the Church first by 2:30pm and go together as a group.
  1. Sunday School Mid-term Exams will be held next Sunday, February 5th.
  1. The Area MGOCSM is hosting the first of the 4 series study on the Holy Qurbana led by Aju Achen. The First class will be held next Sunday, February 5th from 2-3:30pm at St. Basil’s Church, Franklin Square. We encourage all the Youth, particularly those who are teaching Sunday School to attend.
  1. Monthly Prayer meetings will be held at different houses every month beginning the month of February. It will be held on the first Sunday of every month at 5pm. The first prayer meeting will be next Sunday, February 5th, at 5pm we will gather at Valiyachen house. All are requested to attend
  1. Three Day Fast (Nineveh Lent) is next week from February 6th– 8th. On Monday evening and Tuesday evening we will have evening prayer at 6:30pm. Wednesday Evening February 8th at 6:30pm we will have Holy Qurbana.

Weekly Announcements – 12/18/16

  1. Annual Talent Show – The annual talent show will be held on Friday, December 30th at 6:00pm.
  1. Faith Study Series – MGOCSM will be having its monthly faith study series on Friday, December 23rd at 6pm.  We will discussing about the role of marriage and monasticism in the Orthodox Church.  All MGOCSM members are requested to attend.
  1. Christmas Service Song Practice – will be held this Wednesday, 21st and Thursday 22nd evening at 7pm. All members are welcome to join.
  1. Christmas Schedule – Special Christmas Evening prayer will be held on December 24th at 6:30pm. Christmas Service on Christmas Day, the 25th will begin at 7am.
  1. Danaha Perunal – On Thursday evening, January 5th,   we will be celebrating the feast of the Baptism of our Lord. Nicholovos Thirumeni will be leading the service. Evening prayer will begin at 6:30pm. All are requested to attend.
  1. Sunday School Arts & Crafts – Special thanks to MGCOSM members for doing Christmas Arts & Crafts with the Sunday School Students

  1. General Body Meeting will be next Sunday the 18th to the elect the new Governing body members for the year 2017. All eligible members who are 21 and above are requested to attend.

Weekly Announcements – 11/27/16

  1. The Lent of Nativity, starts on Thursday, December 1st. 
  1. The Annual FOCUS/MGOCSM Youth Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner was held on November 27th at 4:30pm in our church. We started with evening prayer and then we had charity activity stations and fun activities/games as well.
  1. A special General Body meeting will be held next Sunday after service to elect members for the Malankara Association. All eligible members are request to attend the meeting.
  1. On Thursday, December 8th, we will be having the Orma Qurbana for the Late Lamented H.G. Mathew Mar Barnabas. All are kindly requested to attend. Evening prayer will begin at 6:30pm.
  1. Funds for the Holy Transfiguration Retreat Center, should be collected from all parishes by Sunday, December 11th.

Weekly Announcements – 11/13/16

  1. The Altar Servers meeting will be held today after Sunday school. All Altar servers are requested to attend.
  2. MMVS is having their food sale today. Kindly support them by purchasing the food they have set up downstairs for us. Special thanks to all of the Samajam member for arranging this sale.
  3. MGOCSM is participating in a food drive with the Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead. Parents and youth kindly participate in this Charity event since we in the season of Thanksgiving.
  4. This Saturday, November 19th, there will be and MGOCSM– OCYM alumni meeting held at St. Mary’s Linden Church at 9:30am-12:30pm. The meeting will be presided by our Diocesan Metropolitan, H.G. Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. For more details kindly look at the  event flyer below.
  5. The FOCUS and the MGOCGM will be having a Potluck Dinner at Church on November 27th from 4:30pm till 7pm. It will be a time for all of the FOCUS and Youth to come together to spend time in fellowship. We will be having charity activity stations and fun activities/games as well. Weekly Announcements – 11/06/16

  1. FOCUS Meeting will he held this Friday, November 11th at 7pm at the residence of Alex and Tigi Abraham. All FOCUS members are requested to attend.
  2. Altar Servers Meeting – The next Altar servers meeting will be held on Sunday, November 13th after Sunday School. All Alter servers are requested to attend.
  3. The MGOCSM of our parish will be participating in a food drive with the Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
  4. MGOCSM Thanksgiving Conference – Will be held on Saturday, November 26th from 9am to 4pm. It will be held at St. George Orthodox Church in Fairless Hills, PA. Weekly Annoucements – 9/25/16

  1. The MMVS Bible study will be postponed to another week because of the parish committee meeting.
  2. The Parish General Body meeting will be held next Sunday, October 2nd,  after refreshments. All eligible members are requested to attend.
  3. Our Next MGOCSM Faith Study series will be held on Friday, October 14th at 6:30pm.
  4. This Friday, September 30th , the area MGOCSM is having a youth night (TGILF) at St. Basil’s Franklin Square from 7pm-9pm.
  5. MGOCSM Back to School retreat is cancelled (Scheduled for Oct 15). Oct 28th Friday evening: Fall Retreat. Details to follow

  7. FOCUS Meeting will be held on Friday, October 7th at 7pm.
  8. Sunday School Area Competition will be held this Saturday, October 1st . All youth and FOCUS are requested to come Friday night (from 5pm onwards) and Saturday (7am- registration starts at 7:30am).

  1. MGOCSM meeting – Saturday, September 24th at 4:30pm at Church
  2. Next MMVS Bible study will be held next Sunday, September 25th, after refreshments.

  6. Oct 1st will be the area Sunday School Competitions held at our parish. Parents and Sunday school teachers are requested to help out.
  7. Onam Lunch (Sadyha)– On Sept 25th we will be having a traditional Onam Sadyha after service.  All members are asked to bring an item of your choice from the list published on the bulletin board in the parish hall.
